Sheldock Building, 215. Apartment 608. A old
building in Torino Station district where stay the Daniel Herrera's gunroom.
With a good reputation as a detective, withdrew his new badge from the drawer
and put in his pocket. Now officially had this function: was able to
investigate crimes in a particular way. His fame was beginning to expand in the
city. In the cold morning of 14 June, Daniel straightened his apartment, which
also served as her desk to customers, not to leave bad impression to those who
pass by. Little did he know that his first official case would be one of the
most important to solve. Once finished passing the coffee, the sound of the
doorbell brought him to the door. In front, none other than Edmund Carter,
Alderman of the City of Rail Port, was escorted by two bodyguards and entered
without permission. Daniel had been baffled by the nervousness of the man and
asked to sit down.
" I have a case that needs attention
immediately!" Carter said.
Daniel pulled the book on the table and heard
the story of Alderman Carter.
"Mark Welm, the leader of Aldermen, was
killed accidentally as The Rail had informed a week ago. But it was not just
that. Their personal attorney, William Digham had just been murdered with a shot
to the head inside their home. According to police, the safe containing
important material had also stolen. The night when he died, Digham received
important figures Rail Port in your home for a dinner: Capt. Samuel Mercer and
public adviser Ryan Sawn, as his own assistant Jill Hawking. With their biggest
concerns, Carter still came as a matter of secrecy for Daniel to search for the
killer, since the Welm's inheritance was in possession of Digham inside the
safe and dispute the belongings of former councilman were great. Welm had not
sons. Then, Carl Welm and Mel Welm, Alderman's brothers, entered into
competition for the death's existing land in the state of Ohio and his small
fortune acquired in Rail Port. "
Edmund Carter asked to Daniel Herrera investigate
the case that will shock the city and left the apartment. The detective would
take a few days to resolve the situation. He left home with his Chevy Impala LS toward the Bluebird
district in Greencliff Island, where stay the house of William Digham. Knew I'd
find something at the crime scene. Closed and no one, the house was beautiful
and well decorated. Just a police officer had watched the house and followed
Daniel to the room where Digham was die until he was found at six in the
morning by the maid. The boy looked at the furniture and safe very carefully.
"It is you who call said?" Asked the
policeman.
" Yes. Why do you want to know?"
"I hear that you resolves any kind of
case. This seems to me very hard!"
"Why's that, officer?" The voice of
the policeman took seriously.
"Well, from what I heard of the
investigation, the service was professional. This safe is a Security Box 3000,
theft proof. You can open only with digital and the body was not used to open
it."
"How do you know?"
"No traces of blood on the floor to leave
marks that he had been carried to the safe and no fingers missing on his hand."
"Unless own Digham had opened the safe to
someone."
The police hadn't thought about the fact. Among
the three who were at dinner, the closest was Jill Hawking, his assistant.
Before the end, Daniel will back to the crime scene. It was time to visit his
friend the "legends" of the city, Herman Kerr, the keychain. Herman
had a small shop in the Lincoln Park district, Stamford Iron Island. The
conversation was not very long, but rather the crossing. Marking the meeting by
phone, Herman was doing his research with the most criminal city staff. Upon
arrival, Daniel found the friend drinking at Bar De Los Chicos, next to his
shop.
"Herman, you need to stop drinking! What
you got for me?"
"I met a Navy' cable named Jones. He told
me that Captain Samuel Mercer rode a chat with the younger brother of the Alderman,
Mel Welm. Met three times on the docks of Greencliff and were talking about his
brother's death. Mercer was a guy trained by the special forces and had also
been a spy in Iraq. Someone says he knew a lot about electronics and achieved
several important documents to his superiors.
The news of
Herman returned to scramble the letters of Daniel. Then, Mercer was able to
open an upscale safe. So it could have killed Digham and robbed his content.
Consequently, the principal was Mel Welm who craved that existed in the safe.
That night had ended with rain, but the new morning started with sunshine. A
link came about nine o'clock in the morning. It was Edmund Carter and the
conversation was quick.
" We investigated
a little of Mark Welm's past. It took some time, but it seemed that the man had
a son or a daughter. Born in 1992, however wasn't registered as a Welm. Mark
still lived in Ohio and his descendant had been there. We do this when we have
access to the links of the office of Mark. Many calls were being made to the
state, and from there, we got the information."
The news
coincided with the reason. Whoever wanted the inheritance: Mel or Carl was
behind the crime. First, Mel was winning and Jill was sinking. It was time to
go talk to one of Welm. Daniel decided to go after Carl, since it could be less
aggressive. Carl Welm was financial executive at Empire Trade Center, in Idaho,
neighbor to the district where Daniel lived. Waiting more than 45 minutes,
finally he was called to talk to Carl. The man was arrogant and very reserved.
"I
knew about your brother." Daniel
began. "Was a sad loss. But I was
more intrigued by the Digham's death."
"William
was a good lawyer and had unfinished business with my brother, rest in peace.
However, for some reason almost went a week without revealing the will of my
brother. And now he was gone too."
"Then,
your brother had a will?" Said smiled.
"Of
course! All Welm have a will. We are a wealthy family and we cannot afford to
leave it all out there without heirs. Our heritage must be maintained."
The
conversation was lowering the tone and entered the subject of wills. Carl
revealed that left nothing to any of the brothers, but everything to his two
sons and wife. Also was surprised by his dead brother having no woman.
"It
was quite a womanizer and ..."
By the time
he finished the sentence, Ryan Sawn opened the door. Daniel stood and greeted
him without arousing suspicion. Carl stared at Daniel who reached out to greet
Sawn. Ryan left some sketches of the new advertising campaign for election of
James Sang, friend of Carl and alderman who had hired the services of Digham
few months ago. Daniel got a few more minutes and left. Everything had wrapped.
Carl knew Sawn and Mel knew Mercer.
Daniel went
to the Bank of State, in the Central Districk agency, where knew Dick Malbrank,
the financial manager. When opened part of the case, Malbrank said about Mercer
and Sawn not had many transactions, but the account of Jill Hawking was too
high for the humble life that the girl wore. A statement given to Daniel
revealed large amount of money received in the last week. If one of the
brothers were hiring Jill to see it go away in Digham might have worked.
The day ended with a ride in the Police
Department. Logan Springwood opened the doors of his office for a conversation
with Dito. He was the one who had information of everything that happened
within the department.
"We found the murder weapon in the Digham's
office." Logan stressed. "But the gun is cold. The pistol is
unmarked. Ballistics reported that the person does not know how to use a gun
well, but warned about putting a rubber glove."
"How did you come to this conclusion?"
- Polyisoprene fragments were found on the butt
of the gun. The substance is found in any rubber material. And the orientation
of the bullet in the Digham's head was very misplaced. The person knew aim and
pull the trigger, but certainly dropped his gun at the first shot.
Two more days have elapsed without further
clues. Daniel was losing hope and Edmund could no longer contain the media curiosity
until Herman called and gave the key clue. The gun had been trading near of the
Greencliff's docks few days before the crime. Daniel went to the docks and took
the truth of Kyle Dawnson. By late afternoon, Daniel met with Logan, Edmund and
the detective assigned to the case, David Lewis, at the crime scene.
Everyone gathered in the Digham's office and
Daniel began to reveal the truth.
"Was a crime between brothers. Mel and
Carl Welm knew that sooner or later would get the inheritance of his brother
Mark. The death was an accident as proven out by the police. However, there was
much more at stake. Mel Welm met three times with Captain Samuel Mercer to try
to convince him to approach William Digham and pluck the name of the person who
was in the will of his brother. On the other hand, Carl Welm met Ryan Sawn,
public aide who worked together in the city council with Mark and Digham. Ryan intercepted
numerous calls to Ohio where a woman spoke with Mark times ago, while Mercer
blurted out that Mark had a daughter. A woman who spoke with Mark was Robin
Hawking, Jill's mother, who was Mark's daughter, the heiress of the political. The
highs bank deposits in Jill's account were given by the father, but the girl
was not enjoying all that money. Digham kept she next to you were could always
watching and protecting her. On the day before the dinner, Mercer and Mel have
not met, but Ryan Sawn went to the Greencliff's docks purchased a gun. He knew
that place would incriminate the Captain of the marinas. Carl gave him a cold
cash to acquire a gun. On the night of the dinner, Digham had been late with
Sawn, discussing the proposals of the new client, James Sang when Digham opened
the safe to get the folders with Sang's documents and Sawn shot in the head's
lawyer. Sawn already wore woolen gloves rubber coated outside, took his gun and
dropped it after the shooting. He took the will and other papers not to raise
suspicion and left. Then he took the testament to Carl Welm. I bet within the
Carl's safe is the will of the brother who proves that Jill Hawking inherit
daddy's money."
